Unfortunately some shouldn't be on the site - I don't know how many posts I have deleted recently Angry

I'm back!!  Grin Grin Grin The banning order has been lifted!  Grin Grin Grin

Nothing serious - no RCCC plot - in the fight against tyranical Russian Porn Czars I was swept up in the tide of bogus emails but I'm back ... bet you all missed me!

On a serious note thanks to John & Sandy for passing my plaintive cries on to the powers that be.

You're welcome, Sir!

On a serious note, both Sandy and I, and OTB too, delete a number of rogue posts when we find them. Unfortunately it happens that some spammers are more clever than we are and whatever we delete simply reappears, loaded from some unsuspecting member with an infected computer. At this stage we alert the webmaster and he then has the very difficult task of tracking the offending computer and blocking the information. Sometimes this may result in a perfectly legitimate member of the forum being blocked too, with no means of communication on the forum.

So, if ever someone is blocked and feels agrieved, simply contact any of the moderators who will do their very best to get things straightened out. In the case of Mcwomble it took less than a day, and welcome back.

Guys you need to make some very simple changes to your board to stop spammers, on the English forum we get none, indeed, none. We simply implemented a couple a bot stoppers and we get no spam. You will still get bots try to register but the scripts will stop them.  Look to;

http://ndickson.wordpress.com/2009/04/04/how-to-stop-simple-machines-forum-spam/

or

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=544

or

It works.

As no-one has posted on the English Forum in the last two years, I'd have thought a Spammer, or two, would be a breath of fresh air!

Wow Eddie I nearly smiled at that one Smiley

Saying that, the enthusiasm for forums does seem to have waned a little in recent years including the Scottish forum I note though that is more active than the English one.

Steve

Hi, thanks for the info, we already have two seperate scripts in place to complicate matters for bot registrations and as far as I know we dont really have a problem with spam posting on the forum ?
