Thanks to a reply from Mike Ferguson in the Scottish Curler, we now understand why he is not prepared to reply to the SCF. Too many secret members, see, hiding behind false identities and having a good time criticising everything and everyone. I must admit, if I had to find a good reason fast, that is as good as they come.
I can understand why the chairman does not want to answer questions from unidentifiable people. An alternative, and easy, answer would be for the RCCC to have their own forum which could only be posted to by members of the RCCC who can provide proper names and membership numbers. The alternative RCCC forum should be able to be read by anyone and this forum should remain as a sounding board for those who do not wish to be identifiable.

Suitably chastised! I do always buy the curler in season. I have sent my subscription away tonight. I am sure someone from the ICA (not I) would be happy to pen a wee bit ,every month or so ,similar to JMLB,s column.

This will probably be a bit of a ramble - I am watching England/USA at the footie!
I, and a few others on here, have served our time on the RCCC Council. We post as we see fit. I am sure that some of the current members of Council are also present either as posters or lurkers.
At the moment we seem to have some very intelligent and knowing posters
I am not aware that any of the current Board post although I suspect that they may lurk.
Would it be reasonable to suggest that at the RCCC AGM a proposal is made that a representative officer of the RCCC is empowered to read and respond to this forum?
I understand the reluctance of the RCCC to respond to anonymous posters but this could easily be got around if the said posters gave their details to the RCCC with the proviso that they were not to be issued in public.
Or am I in gailinwonderland?

.... why the need to provide names.... surely a valid question is a valid question... and a stupid question is a stupid question. it seems world leaders are more prepared to answer their costituents than the rccc

Very reasonable. The world is changing, as in FAST. Modern communication is now by internet. We do it here. We find information, send messages, communicate, publish, buy and sell goods -- all via the internet. The SCF is an excellent forum with serious participation from many excellent brains. There can be NO reason why the RCCC cannot put in place a mechanism through which they can, within the self-imposed restraints of their organisation, communicate with us here on this forum.
Go for it, Sandy!

SANDY 'I'd say why not try' --- but knowing the council members of the past many. just wanted to wear the Blue Balzer but not be seen. Hence maybe the fact that there were none coming forward to be President Elect or is it now VP. Many years ago (10 or more) the RCCC produced 4 News Sheets a year with information and news to inform the curlers. It was left in ice rinks for curlers to pick up and read. It was fairly informative. However in one issue the members of council were listed with a photograph. At the time many of the Council Members were against this as this might raise their profile and curlers might approach them and ask them questions or raise curling problems with them. So much for being elected. So have things changed now? At least now a curler has put his name forward for election.

The desire to ware a blue blazer should ban you for life for every getting one. Maybe some people on this site should be put forward for a position on the council. (would make for some interesting meetings) OK let me hear your nominations for council members and why.
I would propose ottb to be in charge of funding and jjk to be compotitions confiner

Odin, I know that your post was slightly tongue in cheek, but there have been some good council members, you know - in fact at least two are regular contributors to this site.
Why should an ambition to put something back into the game instantly debar the person concerned from doing just that?
Why judge such a person by the actions of others, with whose views you may disagree?
I did enjoy your last sentence though! I can just see jjk in charge of Scottish Selection policy. Given that he is Irish, he would immediately pick me as the skip of the Scottish team.

I have never met a member of the council of the rccc (blue blazer) who did not have the best interests of scottish curling at heart and many share the same frustrations as the ordinary member. (They are a bit like our much maligned M.P's, conscientious people prepared to put their head above the parapet trying to change things for the better but often stifled by the system). However the governing body seems (to me) to be suffering a bit of a mid life crisis. They have been extremely flattered by the attention of the well endowed wealthy blonde (olympics) and have taken their eye of their family responsibilities. (no comments please!). As to the blue blazer debate, surely some sort of piping or special badge would be enough to indicate international curlers. Many members of council (and other governing bodies!) have done far more to "deserve" the blazer than some international curlers!

Putting aside politics of the RCCC on a lighter note who would want to wear a Blue Blazer. They are a hideous colour of blue. In my opinion they should be nice fitted Jackets for the ladies. If I were to wear one (which I don't think will happen and I don't particularly want to) it would drown me even if it was my size. I think someone shoulld change the whole style of the Jackets.

The answer to the jacket can be summed up in one word - sequins.
