Why is there no huge row about the lack of tv coverage of Scotland games
Eve is  lying second in the standings 6-1 and we have seen ONE game(against Germany naturally)

Because there is nothing to row about. Eurosport provide the coverage from WCF-TV ergo the games will feature either Germany or Sweden.
Nuff said and there's not a lot we can do about it.

Can't blame the RCCC for this one and even the WCF aren't totally to blame although if anyone is in Perth a wee word in the office might help.  Germany and Sweden gate the best coverage since they have the most paid up subscribers to Eurosport.  Online is working fine just now Can v Jap.

who would you complain to.....   how many viewers will you guarantee if scotland games are shown?
complaints should be to the bbc scotland and maybe your governing body about why a highlight package cannot be purchased. That may also come into wcf territory BUT i for one would not critiscise eurosport.

Les Harrison is on record that WCF have to pay Broadcasters to get curling on screen
My beef is thatif WCF are paying they should have more say as to the balance of matches shown

Rather the opposite jj. WCF income comes from the Olympics. A huge slice of that income goes in running WCTV, a television production company that provides a feed of these major events to the likes of Eurosport. Does any money come back the way, I don't know.

It has always seemed to me to be something of a murky area. The WCF does not openly share its Accounts with the average punter like us.

Mike Thompson is the person at the WCF to whom questions should be addressed in the first instance.

Bob.... my assumption was that the "olympic money" was to all intents and purposes tv money rather than a gratuitous gesture from the IOC.?

I imagine if a moderator is paying attention, then these posts could get shifted to a separate thread. (Posts moved to new topic -- JM)Alternatively, as suggested above, I could just shave off what remains.

jjk. You are right in what you say. The IOC receives considerable income from television rights, particularly from NBC in the USA, for all the Olympic coverage of all the sports. This income gets distributed to all the (minor) sports governing bodies, the WCF being one. How does the WCF then spend what it gets from the IOC? It provides money to help countries construct facilities, it helps with buying stones, it runs clinics and courses, it supports curling development officers and implements the Development Assistance Program.

And I believe that the WCF spends some $1.75 million on the WCTV operation, and the priority at first was to cover the European Championships, hence the feed to Eurosport. It's all about developing the sport by increasing awareness via television. Recently there has been coverage of the Worlds, particularly in Korea and Japan. This has received huge audiences in Asia, and of course then there is opportunity for INFRONT to gain increased sponsorship and recoup some of the costs.

I don't pretend to understand all the ins and outs of this, but I think that's the gist.

Richard Harding is probably a better bet as he is the man charged with doing all the TV deals.

The issue of all the German games has been raised again and again at WCF meetings - afraid it is a case of advertising income really - more Germans are Eurosport subscribers than other countries - you may as well ask why TSN only shows Canada's games in Canada?

I am no expert on the workings of the WCF, but it is my understanding that Richard did once deal with TV stuff, and no longer does. He is listed as Development Officer on the WCF site, though what exactly he develops I have no idea. No offense to Richard, he is a giant in many ways.
