Ok now that the dust has settled on the Scottish lets look ahead to the Worlds. 5th players for each team need to go. But who?? Graeme Connal for the Murdoch team or will the GB selectors throw a stushie if Warwick or Craig don't go. Similarly if either Warwick or Craig go is it curtains for the other one? ? Ladies As usual a veritable minefield awaits. Do the usual suspects for 5th player go or will a more recognised Skip go as an experienced head?? My guess is Kelly Wood is a good bet to go, failing that I'd expect Lynn Cameron probably. Anyone else fancy a punt at this?

Mens If it wasnt an Olympic year it would likely be Connal. But given it is, it has to be one of the other two. Stats should come into play for these decisions. Interestingly Craig outshot Warwick (80% vs 75%) over the Scottish making it a tough decision. Neither shot the lights out so I reckon they will go with Warwick. On stats alone it should be Hammy on 85% - 100/1 on that one.
Ladies Its got to be Jackie on 83%. 4-5% better than Kelly or Lorna. I cant see them taking Lynn as an experienced top-end player will be required. In a non-olympic year it would be great to see Eve take her Jnr 3rd (and Youth Olympic Champ) Anna Sloan. Another great talent for the future.

Jackie is definitely the fifth player for the women. I took their photo yesterday for the World championship programme.
Men's fifth player has been decided on and confirmation is expected later today once he checks it's OK with his employers.

One point to Bungle.
Thinking further - I fear that Jackie might actually go into the team at third, relegating Karen to 2nd and Rachel to the bench, but we shall see....

Might happen.
But then again we would have four curlers who did not win the Scottish Championship representing us at the World Championship. Why even bother to have a Scottish? Waste of time and money?
It keeps coming back to this problem. The team than won on Sunday are the Scottish Champions. If they are not good enough to represent us, then let's get a better way of deciding who should play in the Worlds. Those in control have to decide one way or the other.
Using the alternate to try to improve the team when things are going badly is in my opinion wrong. I think this practice stinks. Always have done since I first saw it happen back in the early 90s. Yes, it is great to have a good reserve for illness, and even to have them rotate in the team, as in the EYOF last week. But during a world event is not the time to be experimenting with four curlers who may never have played together as a team before. Curling is a team sport, and the effort has to be made to ensure that the team that represents out country is as strong as it can be.

Hear hear!!!!!!!
On the other hand, promise a few excellent young players that they will get to the Olympics, no matter WHO wins the Scottish, and they will play in any team and play their hearts out. Never mind the team, it's all about the individuals chosen for the Olympics. And then the selectors will say "but look at Team Murdoch, been together for years and years". The fact remains, there are only so many winning skips in the world, let alone Scotland, and Murdoch is one of them. So it seems is Eve, and the boat starts rocking too much......

So IF Jackie is third and Eve is skip would Kelly be happy to play in any other position - has anyone asked her?

I thought that they might have gone with Kelly rather than Jackie but seems fair enough, she definately has the experience and can offer something different perhaps at third.
In no way though should the original team be broken up to make way, and shame on the coaches if that's what happens for anything other than illness.

Does the fact that Graeme is going tell us that the mens team for Vancouver has been decided in so much that we know the 4 players and the 5th is in a way a hanger on?

I would say that was a pretty good assumption. Loyalty to Graham could play a big part here, because he did come in and do a great job in Ewan's absence. Also, as well as being a decent bloke to have around, he's a damn good omen. (nine medals from nine trips!!!) I would expect Warwick now to be 5th man for the olympics. I don't think that would be a hard decision to make......unless they crash and burn at the Worlds big time.....however I don't think that will happen!.
