Surprised at the lack of comment on this.  Millport appear to have 3 rinks playing which is totally wrong - our Secretary pushed a wrong button.  It seems that the Office is getting it sorted out and since most people seem to want to knock the RCCC I think that they must be congratulated on starting and continuing this event.  I've been lucky enough to play away from home in the first two and I hope it continues this time

;I'm waiting to see if the "Blue Light " services have given it the go ahead, wouldn't want to participate in something where they could not guarantee my safety Roll Eyes

Millport had a wonderful and friendly game against the Fossoway Ladies and a real good blether afterwards.  The ice, food and general atmosphere at Stirling were brilliant and we did enjoy our visit to the Peak - when we eventually found it due to roadworks.

The score is of little consequence  Cry

Did anyone on here play at Kirkcaldy ? there was one team there who did not play in the spirit of the game IMHO and should be embarassed.

Is this meaning the team that scored 26 shots? can agree with that.

Then again Sorn scored a 8 ender so that seems a bit unfair the the team that lost the 8!!

You are obviously not aware that this is the one competition in the sport where you are encouraged, even required, to humiliate your opposition by as many shots as possible if you want to win one of the trophies. Check out the rules:

"A second trophy shall be awarded to the Club, on either side (other than the one which has gained the Challenge Trophy and Badges), having the greatest net majority of shots. There shall also be awarded to the team of the Club winning the second trophy which has the greatest majority of shots four badges, to be retained by them. There shall be awarded a Medal to the Club on the losing side (other than the Club which may have gained the second trophy) having the highest average majority of shots per team."

I find the possible criticism of a Team that achieved 26 Points appalling. It would have been grossly condescending of them to start "Giving Away" Ends/Shots. The Team, that was beaten, would have felt far worse to know that the Opposition had been playing, well below their best, just to give them a chance of scoring.

We all have bad days, the Sunday before last, had you put a Barn Door at the other end of the Rink, I would have failed to draw through it. Conversely, late last week I didn't seem to be able to play a shot wrong.

I agree entirely Wee Eddie.

But, again, this is what the Grand Match is all about. It's a 'shots up' competition, always has been. You have to beat your opposition by as many shots as possible, and if you happen to be drawn against a weaker team, then so much the better. It always has been total war, no quarter. (On the ice, at any rate. Off the ice, I would hope that normal camaraderie prevails)

And as I said before, there are few if any competitions played this way these days.

What were the general experiences of forum members playing in the IGM? How was the organisation/hospitality/ice if you travelled away and is it value for money ?

This is what should have been blasted on this forum prior to the Grand Match! We'll do our best to remind everyone before the next one: Kill! Kill! Kill!

We had a big score in our game but at two ends we could have measured for more shots but given we were a few up felt it the 'sporting' thing not to take them!  Not sure we would have got to 26 but would have been over 20, bugger! esp if a prize for most shots.

It always pays to find out what the Rules are, for the Competition that you're playing in.

The Tactics, for a "Shots up" Competition are totally different from those of the normal game.
