WOW - headlines on page 11 of The Mail on Sunday, half page with photo of Derek and Gail

The former skip of Scotland's world womens championship curling team is to sue the coach who sacked her during a disasterous tournament.

Gail Munro has instructed a lawyer to begin an action against Scotland coach Derek Brown, claiming stress and damage to her reputation.

The row came after the mother of 2 was ditched by Brown ahead of the final 2 games of last years World Womens Championships in Canada.

A second curler, Lyndsay Wilson, did not compete either after voicing dismay at her(Gail's) treatment.  She has joined Mrs Munro in a bid to clear their names, which has so far cost £16,000 in Lawyers fees.  It is understood the sports ruling authorities face a bill of £30,000 to investigate the complaints.

Both women were said to have refused to play, but it is understood Mrs Munro's case will centre on a claim she was not reinstated to the team, coached by Rhona Martin.

'It was a 20 minute episode which blew up.  Gail and Lyndsay were horrified to find themselves portrayed as divas who had refused to play.'

Mr Brown, had heard Mrs Munro was considering legal action, but added: 'It is just on the rumour mill so I can't comment'

Colin Grahamslaw said: 'There is an ongoing appeal process so it would be inappropriate to comment.'

Mrs Munro declined to comment.

Is this what the Board meant by 'The hopes that a final statement could be issued following the last meeting had been overtaken by events outwith the Royal Club’s control.'?

No, surely not, that wouldn't have anything to do with the RCCC or does it?

Anyone know what is going on?

I really don't think that is what the Board meant.  I think Colin G gives the answer in his quote.

The way I heard it Derek was appealing the opinion of the Conduct Panel and even went as far as to say he would sue them if they didn't retract it from their letter where they outlined their decision not to pursue either complaint - you know - the one that Bob was forced to remove because Derek's lawyers threatened action against him if he didn't take it off his blog.

I think it is stalemate at Cairnie House, they don't know which way to turn.  Derek is clutching at straws in a bid to save his job and Gail is determined to see justice served up.

If the RCCC had dealt with it appropriately in the first place then they wouldn't be in this situation.

Is anyone going to the RCCC AGM?  Will Vernon be on the agenda under AOCB?  Is it right that if an item for discussion isn't submitted by 8th June then it can't be brought up at the AGM? (Maybe this should be in a new thread - mods, feel free to move if you think it necessary)

It seems to be at the top of the original thread.  If you go the Forum link at the top of the page and then The Curling Rink and click on the original post, the one with a ? it appears at the top of it.

It there is an easier way please let me know!

Just found it!! Click on the subject line at the top and it takes you straight to the original thread Smiley

The poll works, I've just voted. As I understand only registered members can access the poll and vote, and if you're not logged on you are a guest.

I have also merged the two topics with the same subject line.

Please note: I have not been able to verify any of the information quoted or posted about who is complaining about what or whom, so please inform me immediately if there is a problem with accuracy. For now it all appears consistent with what I do know.

Grin Ok got it now...followed HHS instructions, 2nd para of his post at 5.03.  In other words, it's at the top of this thread. Pretty convincing , so far.

I don't know the answer, sorry, and the RCCC website is a little vague.

From the RCCC website Ref AGM
The cover letter also included the following important deadlines:-
1.      Items for inclusion under any Other Competent Business – 8 June 2009

It does say 'deadline' which implies just that; but surely anyone can stand up and say what they like at an AGM?

Are there any Club secretary's out there who can tell us what the letter actually says? (Mine is on Holiday Sad or I would have asked him)

If there is no response you could always ask the RCCC in the morning.

Re: AGM I think 'due to on going legal action - No Comment' will be the response to any Question raised under AOCB.

I read the story and am wondering if the position of National Coach is being sued, if so Sport Scotland/RCCC with have to hire a lawyer to defend the position or is D Brown being sued?

When will the case go to court mid Feb 2010 would be good timing!

I hope the person with the big can of worms has the top on securely!

http://www.royalcaledoniancurlingclub.org/nlstory.cfm?ID=33658&NLID=40830

is almost the same as the letter sent to Club Secretaries - and the relevant parts are identical.

The story doesn't appear on the Daily Mail's website and doesn't appear to have been picked up by any other papers.  Huh

Who leaked the Conduct Panel's decision to the media?
Who leaked this story to the media?

On the face of it, it sounds like claim and counter claim. Sandy Morton said in his post of 13th May in another thread that “Gail is too honest and honourable to have to "leak" comments” so I would exclude her as a suspect.

However, I’m sure all anyone has to do to assess the actions and behaviour of all parties is to read the Vernon Report, however grim the content for some.

HHS started this thread and I'm sure the information he posted came from somewhere. However, I have done a bit of searching and can find nothing on the internet in any newspaper, and must therefore assume that it has been withheld or removed. There is a very strong likelihood that the reason would be "impending legal action" or something.

So, be careful what we say here, because they might also try to shut this forum down!
