The succesful candidate will have the ability and expertise to increase the profile of, and particpant numbers in, curling. A track record of attracting sponsors and media coverage will be an advantage.

Dream on, sir. We're back to the beginning here: nowhere to curl, no curling, no members, no revenue. In principle I agree with what you're saying. In reality no-one is listening to what we say, because they have a different agenda. The real money does NOT come from sponsors, it comes from the curlers, the real people.

Agree with JJK. The job might be tailored but as well as admin skills the new CEO must be Media savvy and also have connections with the business world. We have lacked good sponsors for most of our events for years. As for attracting more curlers that surely is being done by the development officers and the coaches at the ground level. It is the attitude of some of the clubs that need to change, welcoming new curlers and giving them help, encouragement and that curler thing, friendship.
Too many are based in the past with the attitude that thats the way it always was and no promotion for good curlers. Dead mans shoes comes to mind.
We need posotive action not muttering and criticism of those on the outside who dont curl or curl occasionally.

The job of any ceo is to know the targets to set for those around him/her ( development officers etc).  He (or she) needs to be able to advise and inspire those below him (her) in the chain of command. BUT above all else a ceo must be able to set out a clear vision of where they see the company (association) going during their tenure.
In my humble opinion the following are not neccesary attributes;
"credible record of working with...local authorities and national agencies"
"working knowledge...of ice sports in particular"
"knowledge of IT systems"
"knowledge of performance sports structures"
"awareness of the structures and funding sources in scottish sport"

I think with such parameters an "incestuous" appointment is inevitable.

Regarding Chris Hildrey - he was elected to the position of Chairman at British Curling because he was the better of the TWO people who applied for the position back in 2006. Not because he was part of any "establishment".

Quote
I would rather see an appointment from outside the sport with somebody who has a track record in increasing participation numbers in another area of sport - fresh thinking and clean broom needed perhaps - with no existing baggage to carry and deal with.

So where do you think Colin Grahamslaw came from -  outside curling - via fencing and hockey - if you are against what he has done for Scottish curling then why do you think another from outside would be any different.

Maybe as JJK suggests you actually need to go outside of sport altogether....

I believe five of these were shortlisted Sandy, then two invited for a further interview. If one of these has been appointed I expect we will hear soon.

Thanks Bob - presumably if the chosen candidate has to give due notice in their present/previous employment we might have to wait a few more days to hear who the successful person (she/he) is?

One can but hope! Having read the release (twice) I'm sure he will be able to help the RCCC "to implement our strategic plans", which seem to be "to keep Scottish curlers delivering world class results". For someone who has no experience of curling, this will be some achievement.

While I wish him all the best, and I'm sure he was the best applicant for the job, I fear he has already been absorbed by the elite. Let's wait and see!

The new CEO hasn't even had the chance to get his feet under the table and as usual John M has him as a failure. Is it any wonder that the RCCC don't recognise this forum as worthwhile when you get bitter and non productive veiwpoints such as those.

Bobby,  While it may not be ecstatically optimistic, I don't see it as " bitter and non productive".
Either way, if RCCC recognition is only to be given to non critical forums it's hardly worthwhile
