Note from RCCC competitions calendar that there are two pre-qualifiers in October, Lockerbie & Hamilton, also no mini-tour info posted as yet ?

Does anybody know what the structure of the Scottish is to be next season ?

Noticed that as well, the ice needed for Lockerbie is similar to mini tour so have to assume similar number of teams.  Will this be instead of 2 wkends after christmas or in addition to them?  if it is in addition it makes it a lot of games and a lot of expense! 

Will many teams enter if they have to play 4 wkends to get to the finals?  I would not have the holidays or money to do that!

Most qualifiers are already playing four weekends to get through - 2 minitour + 2 playdowns.

Those who failed to qualify through mini-tour and then went to pre-qualifier played 5 weekends.

For teams not required to qualify for playdowns, there are now few options for competitive curling in standard format before the Scottish starts.

somebody needs to get a grip of this - talk about turning people off bothering to enter.

The minitour was obviously struggling so they converted it into prequalifiers to force people to play in them. Those teams that couldnt or wouldnt play in the minitour still had the prequalifiers weekend in december to have a go at - they will now have to play in October and could effectively have their competitive season in the 1st month of curling.

I also take Bungles point of no competitions for those teams that qualified from last year till inverness skins or edinburgh intl. the format also doesnt let the "little teams" have a go at the big boys as they have all been got rid off way back in October.

Nah - its just not right and hasnt been for the last number of years. Some clear blue thinking needed.

Interesting comment about no womens tour because of lack of entries but no comment about how to change this!  10 teams will play if they get 10 entries!

If I read this correctly the top 20 men will play Dec & Jan so what if they only get say 25 mens teams in total, take ranks teams out they may only have a few teams to play Lockerbie & Hamilton! 

Does no look good for future.

That is probably what is expected for mens enteries. There are only 8 teams at most who are going straight through to distrcits.

So if there are 25 entries, that would leave 17 teams left to go through the pre qualifiers to play for the last 12 spots in districts. The only awkward amount of entries would be in the low 20's.

Bob describes it as a 'big rethink' of the womens Championships.

Did anyone doing the thinking bother to ask the competitors what they thought?

Who made the decisions?

Despite being a member of the LSC and a competitor they didn't ask me or my team and by the time I found out it was too late, it had already been ratified by the board.

So taking your figures - we have 2 weekends of curling to get rid of 5 teams !

Wouldnt it make more sense to go straight into the districts with those 5 teams. You could quantify the entries
-- below 24 teams would be 2 sections of 12 (11games)
-- 25 to 36 teams would be 3 sections of 8 to 12 teams (7 to 11games)
--37 to 48 teams??? would be 4 sections of 8 to 12 teams

(and by all means seed the last seasons finalists between the sections)

simples !!

They know the entry numbers by the end of June so can book ice accordingly .

Ahhhh but i forget - the big teams cant be bothered playing against the youngsters and minnows - no point in giving them any experoience or a chance at playing oin the big league .......

You don't really expect them to consult anyone who actually has some sense, do you? Or anyone who will actually be affected by their decisions? Or anyone who has a strong and well-supported opinion?

I did wonder about this. Perhaps the following from the Feb 12 Draft Minutes of the RCCC Events Committee casts light:

"Scottish Men’s & Women’s Championships: The system of play and timing of finals would be considered by a sub-committee of Colin Hamilton, Pat Edington, Bob Kelly and Brenda Macintyre."
